A story of tragedy, friendship and hope…
Once is a captivating tale based on real-life events – the World War – and it starts with Felix. Felix is an orphan in Germany who has always been waiting and wishing for his parents to come back for him, waiting for 3 years and 8 months. Then one day, Felix receives a rare gift, which is not what it seems. From that day on, Felix decides to leave in pursuit of finding his parents. On the way, he finds an unusual friend, a kind Nazi, and even more events that shape his life. Just when Felix thinks he is safe, a twist appears and it seems like all is lost – until a ray of hope breaks through the darkness. He realises his story isn’t over yet.
My favourite character in this book is Barney because of his love for children and how he always does what is best for them, I think he is a great character because of his key qualities – kindness and bravery.
My favourite part in this book is when Felix first leaves the orphanage and witnesses the Nazi’s in one of their jobs, perceives it in a different way. It shows the scene from a child’s perspective, and I felt I could relate to it a lot.
