It’s a journey through the lives of five friends in senior school, showing how they solve problems and uncover secrets as they try to stop an evil force. They are known as Club Loser.

It begins with a Saturday detention involving four school pupils: Gus – the weirdo; Naira – the annoying, perfect pupil; Hallie – the girl who loves hitting and breaking things; and Angelo – the shady loner. They attend a “back-on-track” session with their cringe teacher, Mr Canton. What could be worse?

They go through countless adventures with the evil caretakers, who turn detention into their  worst nightmare. Along the way, as the four try to defeat them, they get to know each other better and form a strong bond. They face giant spiders, mind – controlling maggots, a furious kraken, and much more throughout the books. But the fifth member is one most unexpected of all – and you’ll have to read on to find out who it is!

My favourite part in the series is when Club Loser is hanging out at the annual Dread Wood High Fair. When the lights turn off, everyone goes crazy and starts running around. I find this scene very funny when I picture it in my head.

My favourite character is Gus because, as the series goes on, you discover that he isn’t the weirdo everyone thinks he is. He is actually really funny, and even though he has a medical condition, he doesn’t let it stop him from doing the things he loves.
