When a group of elderly pensioners decide to challenge stereotypes, they find themselves drawn into a life of crime and they are having the time of their lives!
Martha, Brains, Christina, Rake and Anna – Gretta are all very good friends who live in The Diamond House, a retirement home for oldies. All the residents there are treated very badly by Nurse Barbara and things have started to decrease in quality and care rapidly. Soon it becomes evident to the five friends that to save themselves from this misery they must escape.
While watching television programmes, the friends discover that prisons appear to offer a better quality of life than their retirement home – or at least that is what it seems like – so they decide that if they want to live the rest of their lives in adventure, the path of crime is their only option.
The five pensioners put on brave faces and experience a series of fun, adventure, challenges, and anxious moments while putting one another to the test. With high hopes the group set out, for a new day has dawned and these are not just five oldies, they are the beginning of a revolution…
But once the five choose a life of crime, will their adventure turn into a nightmare?
My favourite character is Anna – Gretta because she is quick-witted and not afraid to show her personality, and when she puts her mind to something she can be of great help to the team.
My favourite part was when the league of pensioners succeeded in their first heist, because every detail is described and it is humorous to read how a group of oldies can perform a detailed robbery leaving no trace!
Is The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules Worth Reading?
Overall, I loved reading this book. From humorous arguments to serious discussions about planning heists, it completely drew me into the story of the five thieves. I think this book highlights how some care homes do not treat residents as well as they should and reminds people that older people deserves fun and respect too.
The only thing I would say is that the book contains some mild swearing, so be aware of that before you begin reading.
I rate this book a 5 out of 5 and recommend it to anyone seeking an adventurous read.
