The Girl of Ink & Stars

The Girl of Ink and Stars is a spectacular tale of friendship and bravery.

It all begins when a mysterious governor arrives on the shores of Joya. With the governor come new rules and new laws, turning Joya into a prison. When Isa’s friend goes missing, she is determined to find her before it is too late. Far below, there is a ravenous creature unlike any other – a beast that is awakened from its sleep.

This is a heartwarming tale that leaves you to thinking deeply about the message, “A true friend will always be by your side when you need them.”

My favourite part was when a few enraged village people blew up the governor’s ship to stop him from escaping and leaving danger in the village. I thought it was really thrilling to read about his reaction and shock.

My favourite character is Lupe (the governor’s daughter), who is Isa’s best friend. Lupe can be really funny as well, but that is not the reason I like her. I like Lupe because of how strong their friendship is! She becomes the saviour of Joya; she becomes their Arinta (saviour).

Overall, this is a wonderful book to read. It makes you want to hold back tears but also burst out laughing and even feel a bond with each of the characters. It’s an amazing tale of two best friends and how one saved Joya.

I recommend this book to year 3 and above and I hope that you will like this book
