You will meet a 13-year-old girl named Anne and read her life story in her own words- how life was spent in hiding, her admirers, friendships, love life, and the terrible fate that awaited her.
The Diary of a Young Girl is a true story about a girl living during the Second World War, when Jewish people faced horrific atrocities under Nazi Germany, led by Adolf Hitler.
Anne lived a very happy and normal life in Holland, Netherlands. Her days were filled with the usual activities – going to school, playing with friends, and having fun. However, everything changed in 1942, not just for Anne but for all Jews. Her struggles began with a call-up notice delivered to Frank’s family home. They knew this meant something terrible. To survive, they were forced into hiding in an unexpected place.
Anne and her family lived in hiding for two years. Although it never felt like home, Anne made some of her best memories there. During this time, she built resilience, discovered her passion for writing, found love and friendship, and grew more confident – despite living each day with fear and uncertainty if they would live to see another day.
My favorite part in Anne’s diary is at the end, when I read her final passages. She writes so beautifully about herself, revealing her two sides and showing she was still trying to discover who she truly was.
During a visit to Amsterdam, my journey into Anne’s life became even more meaningful when I went on an Anne Frank tour. Seeing the place where she lived made the story even more impactful. Her father later published her diary as a way of remembering Anne and sharing her words with the world, bringing people together across the world and generations.
