Books included in the collection 2:
- Five Go to Smuggler’s Top
- Five Go Off in a Caravan
- Five on Kirrin Island Again
The Famous Five is a really interesting series to read. Each story is packed with a lot of action, which kept me glued to the book until I finished.
My favourite part of the Collection 2 is the last story, Five on Kirrin Island Again. In this story George is desperate to find her dog Timmy and goes to Kirrin Island. However, instead of Timmy, she discovers her father has been kidnapped and trapped underground on the Island.
George remains my favourite character, even in Collection 2. She is a real thrill-seeker and won’t stop at anything to get what she wants. She is quite stubborn, which she takes after her father. I also like her appearance – even though she cut her hair short to make herself look like a boy, she is still very unique. She’s one character!
The reason I chose to read The Famous Five is because of its concept, which involves children solving mysteries and interesting cases. However, I found that Collection 2 starts to drag on a bit around the middle, when Enid Blyton focuses on the discovery of the hole on Kirrin island. It does pick up towards the end, as the mystery started to unfold.
I would definitely recommend reading Famous Five Collection 2, as it is a great mix of stories full of adventures and mysteries. Five Go Off in a Caravan and Five on Kirrin Island Again are the best stories in this collection, in my opinion. However, I would also recommend starting from Collection 1 and reading onwards, as there are links between the stories in each collection.
