The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

by L. Frank Baum

Published in 1900

An abandoned girl, one scarecrow, a man made from tin, a lion, and a wizard…

When Dorothy is whisked away from her home by a cyclone, everything changes. All of a sudden, Dorothy finds herself in a mysterious and bewildering land, where people are very small and everything is either emerald green or brilliant blue. Dorothy, however, needs to get back home to Kansas, so she heads to the Emerald City to meet Oz, the great and terrible!

What she finds on the way is certainly most unexpected – something that changes her life forever. When Dorothy and her friends reach the Emerald city, they discover that to get their dreams granted, they must kill the Wicked Witch of the West. Will they be able to, or will Dorothy never be able to return to Kansas again?

My favourite part was when Dorothy met the Scarecrow. It was really funny to read about Dorothy’s reaction to a talking scarecrow!

My favourite character is the Wicked Witch of the West because of how cunning she is and how she managed to take control of an entire country. Most of all, I like how she went from a little green girl who was made fun of to the most powerful witch in Oz.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this magical book. I would like to know the Wicked Witch of the East’s backstory and to find out what happens next to the Wizard of Oz. I think the core message of this story is that friendship is one of the most important things in life

I liked this book, and I am sure that you will too. So if you want to find out more, why not read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz?
