The Last Bear is a heartwarming story about the bond between a girl and a polar bear. Together they change the world, and it all starts with a girl called April Wood. April is not like other kids – she’s different. She can bond with animals.
April’s mother passed away when she was little, leaving her dad shocked and unable to focus on April, which means she becomes isolated. However, when she goes to the Arctic and Bear is in danger, everything changes. April is about to make the most important journey of her life. Can she do it in time?
This story is a call to all of us to do our part in saving the environment. It raises awareness of all the animals out in the wild who are suffering because of us. Lastly this story is about a life-changing bond – a human and a polar bear.
My favourite part was when Bear is first introduced to peanut butter and he gobbles it up!
My favourite character is Bear because of how resilient he is in the toughest of times, even when he lost his family – all he had. He is brave, strong, and a true polar bear. Most of all, he trusts a human – the exact species that had taken his mother.
I recommend The Last Bear to action-packed, animal, and nature book fans. Getting this book is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! I think the core message of this exciting , emotion-arousing story is – “Just because you’re small, doesn’t mean you cannot make a difference.”
I recommend this book to all ages (even grown-ups!). This book and Hannah Gold both deserve a round of applause! I would have preferred the book to end with an award for April for what she achieved- and with that I say, go to your local library and read, The Last Bear.
